Three Reasons to Be Nice
I like to be nice but sometimes I forget, why is that? In a world that often bombards us with negativity sometimes we need to just stop and make more of a conscious effort to be a little nicer. While there are probably many reasons to be nice here are three good ones to get you started:
- Being nice boosts your self esteem and sense of well being
- Being nice relieves stress
- Being nice is contagious and inspires others to be nice too
Alright so you’re sold on being nice- now you need some ideas:
- Hold the door. Holding the door open for anyone is gesture of kindness and respect and is almost always greeted with a grateful smile. Next time you run into the store or office, hold that door for the people behind you.
- Give “ A Specific Thank You” . We take a lot for granted these days. Even when someone does something because “it’s their job” it’s still nice to say thank you and it is more sincere when you comment specifically on what made their action special. For example “thank you for taking the time to explain that to me”.
- Look for a need that you can fill. Did someone mention that they used to love glazed donuts? Well bring them one. Does your best friend keep forgetting to make her hair cut appointment- stick the number on a post it note by her phone. Little things mean a lot. It just shows that you care and that you are paying attention. It’s nice.
